I read a lot across a wide range of subjects because I don’t want to get stuck in a mental groove.
Recently, I read a book that mentioned Krav Maga. It was developed by Emrich “Imre” Lichtenfeld and is a form of self-defence and physical training, based on the use of reflexive responses to threatening situations. Anyone can use the techniques and you don’t need to be in great shape to start.
I signed up for classes because I was curious.
I didn’t expect to experience such a deep internal shift in my self-confidence in just a few sessions. I find it hard to describe – but the image of this cat sums it up – it’s like an awakening of a positive side of myself that has lain dormant. In a very short period of time I have also become more aware of things around me and feel more comfortable in my body. Krav Maga does not use weapons so you are reliant on agile thought and physical responses to get out of threatening situations. It also teaches you not to give up.
I feel grateful that I am able to continue to find out things about myself and have the freedom to do so.
